My girlfriend and favorite fishing partner, Erin Brasfield, has made numerous appearances in Bent Rods and Tight Lines. After two years of dating, including almost an entire year of living together, I decided it was time to stoop down on bended knee and propose marriage. .
Angling for tourists: Hersey dam demolition to restore trout fishery
HERSEY - Hopes are the removal of an aging dam will provide a vital key in the survival of one local village. Like many of the state's more than 2,000 dams, the Hersey River dam in the Village of Hersey was once a significant source of hydropower and important to the community's economic infrastructure. Click Here for Video Constructed in the 1930s, the dilapidated dam is now considered a public safety threat and detrimental to the environment. Its demolition and a river restoration are expected to play a significant role in reviving the community. “The only business left downtown is the General Store," said Village President John Calabrese. “My feeling is if tourism and recreational opportunities on the river increase, it will inspire someone to reopen businesses and there will be enough people around to support them.
Fly fishing workshop offered
8/30/2006 - Alberto Rey will present Fly Fishing in the Great Lakes at the Adams Art Gallery Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. All proceeds will benefit the gallery. Rey is an accomplished fisherman as well as an educator and nationally recognized artist. His articles and artwork have been on the covers and in the pages of Grays Sporting Journal, Art of Angling, Fish and Fly Magazine and Buffalo Spree. The Fly Fishing in the Great Lakes is based on Reys research, background and experience. He is an Orvis Endorsed Fly Fishing Guide and the founder and director of SAREP Youth Fly Fishing Program. Weather permitting, a portion of the presentation may be held in Washington Park. The cost for the workshop is $30 for adults and $20 for children.
