FlyFishing Retailer World Trade Expo 2006 a Big Success

More than 2,700 of the fly-fishing industrys business people converged on Denver for FlyFishing Retailer 2006, and industry leaders are celebrating the brisk trade.

It was one of the best shows weve ever had. We actually sold out of one of our new for 2007 products before the end of day two, reported Jim Bartschi, President of Scott Fly Rods. If you missed it this year, make sure to come next year.

126 credentialed media attended, including Shallow Water Angler Editor and Florida Sportsman fly-fishing editor, Mike Conner.

Mother Nature joins fight to control Rapid bass

For the past several years the number of bass in the Rapid River has been growing, troubling anglers who seek this world-class trout and salmon fishery near Farmington.

Efforts this spring to disrupt the fish from spawning using a first-time study failed, said state fisheries biologist Forrest Bonney.

But Mother Nature created an experiment all her own that may provide data that would help biologists get a handle on how to control these predatory pests.

"One of the things about bass they don't react well in (high) water levels before spawning and during spawning and after spawning," said Jeff Reardon, Trout Unlimited New England director.

"I don't think anything in this year's result discouraged us. It confirmed what we already know: Bass are really sensitive.

Absolutely Amazing Asparagus

The latest issue of Cuisine celebrates the arrival of asparagus, the queen of spring vegetables, and a sure sign that warmer weather is on the way.“Asparagus are to spring what peaches are to summer. These tasty vegetables are a true delicacy – and one of the few that aren't grown year-round," says Simon Wilson, Cuisine Editor. “Spring heralds the arrival of new-season fruits and vegetables, and our new issue suggests to readers many ways to enjoy the sweet, delicate new flavours of this delicious produce."Lauraine Jacobs celebrates the asparagus with helpful tips on choosing, preparing and cooking the perfect stalk. Her recipe for grilled asparagus with anchovies and lemon is a simple yet delicious way to savour its unique flavour, while her asparagus, potato and salmon salad shows how to enjoy asparagus in the company of other favourite ingredients.
