Event features fishing legend
The Blue Grass Chapter of Trout Unlimited will host a special event on Monday, Aug. 14, with fly-fishing legends Dave and Emily Whitlock. Dave Whitlock is a renowned conservationist, fly tyer, writer and artist. His presentation and fly casting demonstration will be held at 6 p.m. at the Good Ol' Days Farm, 544 Old Frankfort, in Midway. Reservations are required, and tickets are $30 per person. We were returning from a trip to Nashville and found ourselves with an extra day and nothing planned. With the town of Rockbridge only a few miles out of the way, we decided to spend some time catching big rainbow trout. This was the second time we'd made the trip to Rockbridge but the first time we'd made it together. Karen and I were introduced to the Rainbow Trout and Game Ranch while attending Dave and Emily Whitlock's fly fishing school.

The recently released flim, Jindabyne, is an adaptation of Raymond Carver's short story So Much Water, So Close to Home, about a group of fishermen who discover the dead body of a woman floating in the river. Instead of doing something with the body, the men mysteriously decide to leave the body while they continue to fish. When the men finally return home to Jindabyne, and report finding the body, all hell breaks loose. The fishermen, their wives and their children are suddenly haunted by their own bad spirits. As public opinion builds against the actions of the men, their certainty about themselves and the decision they made at the river is challenged. Jindabyne casts Laura Linney, Gabriel Byrne, Deborra-Lee Furness, John Howard and Leah Purcell. It was directed by Australian, Ray Lawrence and produced by April Films.
